'Yik Yak' Bomb Threats Prompt Evacuations at Marblehead High School

Marblehead High School was evacuated twice Tuesday due to bomb threats posted on Yik Yak.

Members of the Marblehead police and fire departments were called to Marblehead High School Tuesday after school officials noticed a pair of bomb threats on the social media app Yik Yak.

According to a Marblehead Public Schools announcement, at 10:55 a.m., the high school was evacuated after officials received a bomb threat through the social media site.

At 12:15 p.m., the building was declared safe and students returned to their classes.

Then, at 1:30 p.m., a second threat was received, prompting another evacuation.

"Appropriate steps have been taken to provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff," the announcement read.

The app Yik Yak does not require users to create a username and anyone can post anonymously for people within a ten mile radius to view.

If you, or anyone you know has information that could help in the investigation into the bomb threats, please contact police at 781-631-1212 or contact the department anonymously via their tip line on the Marblehead Police Facebook page.
