Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Pole on West Street

A local man was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol following an early-morning crash on West Street.

A local man was arrested early Monday morning and charged with drunken driving after allegedly slamming his vehicle into a pole on West Street.

Alan R. Potash, 66, of 15 Sapphire Ave., Marblehead, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

At 1:13 a.m., police, fire and ambulance units responded to West Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle, according to the reporting party, struck a utility pole.

Potash was reportedly placed under arrest and taken to the .

The vehicle was reportedly inventoried and towed away from the scene and the utility pole was reportedly moved "about four inches" by the impact, according to police.
