What Should Go Here?: Atlantic Avenue

What would you like to see move in to the new building coming to Atlantic Avenue?

It looks like two brand new commercial spaces are going to be available in a sometime next year.

The building will be built on the property that currently houses the former Fruit of the Four Seasons building, which is expected to be torn down by the end of the year to make way for a new one-story commercial space.

So, as part of our Visions for Vacancies column, we have to ask - what kind of businesses would you like to see move in when the new building opens?

The new building will have two separate storefronts facing Atlantic Avenue and the latest plans call for the creation of several new parking spaces along Barnard Street.

Have you been hoping for a certain kind of business to come to town? Is there something you think would thrive at this location?

Ok---this is what I think---two place I happen to really like are out of town. One is The Gingerbread Construction Co. out of Winchester. I go to the one in Wakefield. If you haven't tried the muffins, etc. you are missing out. Yummy!! I know that would be a success but it might be difficult to get them here. Number two---Caloifornia Pizza Kitchen. I go to the one at the Prue ctr, near Saks 5th. Absolutly a wonderful, casual place where you can get all sorts of yummy lunch and dinner things. They are a chain and I have been in several of them from Naples Fl., Las Vegas, Cambridge, (not sure they are still there), Wellsley and several other places I am sure. They are very well run and the atmosphere and food is always great and fun.

Sewing store - AC Moore and Joanne's Fabrics are too far away, and Walmart doesn't have enough...OR, The Butchery...!!!

Yes. More yarn for all the shut-ins knitting sweaters for their cats.

Wouldn't it be nice if Marblehead had at least one gas station? I know that this isn't the right spot for it, but it was the first thing that came to my mind as far as what's missing from town.

Casino. Just kidding. How about men's clothier or Apple computers? IMO we have enough eateries.

my question would be, what do locals purchase from out of town for that they would prefer to get in town....I don't think we need more of what we already have as there is a limited buying public and any business that gets established has to be profitable....so I would rephrase the question to ask "if you are not buying locally, what products and services are you buying."

Either a small neigborhood movie theatre..... or a sewing goods store. Now you have to drive far for each and it would be so nice to simply have them in town.

An organic pizza house.

A place to rent bicycles, kayaks, boards etc. would be a great addition for tourists and local families alike. Gas station would be a dream but that's not likely. An Irish pub with a real fireplace would be lovely...

A family shoe store with shoes you can actually use daily!

Yes, two votes for a sewing store!

How about a Trader Joes? I'd like to see some kind of grocery to compete with Crosby's.
