Now Open: Candy Pop Sweet Shoppe

It's been just under a month since Candy Pop Sweet Shoppe owner Traci Teague opened in the Washington Street storefront formerly occupied by Bliss Home and she said the response from the community has been excellent.

Although new products are arriving daily and the interior of the shop is still a work in progress, Teague said business has been brisk since she opened her doors in late April.

"It's been really great so far and we will be adding a lot of other products soon," Teague said Sunday afternoon.

The shelves of the candy store, located at 152 Washington St., are already stocked with an assortment of dessert and cake pops, flavored popcorns, penny candy, organic candy, vegan candy, sugar-free candy, pre-packaged bags of assorted candies, brownies, fudge and cookies.

In addition to becoming a place where local residents can go when they need a quick sugar fix, Teague said she hopes her specialty gift boxes and party favors will become a must-have at local parties.

So what's been flying off the shelves so far? Teague said she's run into some difficulty when it comes to keeping her gourmet cake pops in stock.

"I've already had to re-order the red velvet cake pops twice," Teague said.

Candy Pop Sweet Shoppe isn't Washington Street's only new business - it opened just two doors down from the future home of , which is expected to open in the space formerly occupied by next month.

Store Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
