Swampscott Police Officer, Marblehead Woman Take Top Spots at JCC's Triathlon By the Sea

The JCC's annual Triathlon By the Sea was held Sunday in Marblehead.

 The following was submitted by Leigh Blander: 

More than 275 people competed in the 14th Annual JCC Triathlon by the Sea, as crowds lined the route cheering their support. Swampscott Police Officer Kevin Reen won the race for his 5th year with the time of 53 minutes, six seconds. His brother, Brendan, came in second just a minute behind! Kristen Lamb of Marblehead was the women’s winner with a time of 56 minutes, 50 seconds.

The oldest finisher was Jim Brescia of Reading at 74 years old. There were five 13-year-olds competing: Julie Cerrutti, Connor Ohlson and Amanda Monahan of Marblehead and Lars Purcell and Jasper Westhoven of Swampscott.

The JCC TRI attracts a great mix of rookie triathletes and more seasoned competitors. This year, there were 90 first-timers!  The racers came from across the North Shore, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine and Virginia!

The JCC Race Series continues this summer with our new Obstacle Course Race by the Sea in July. Always wanted to try a Spartan or Tough Mudder? No need to leave town. Look for details soon!

Next is our Duathlon by the Sea on Sunday, Oct. 12. Similar to the TRI, but without the swimming! This race starts with a 3.5 mile run, followed by a beautiful 10-mile bike ride around Marblehead Neck and then another 2-mile run. 

And in December, don’t miss the 3rd  Annual Dreidel Dash. This year, the fun includes a Kids one-mile race on the Marblehead Bike Path, an all-ages, two-mile race and a 10K race from the JCC, around Marblehead Neck and back.
