Marblehead Teens Job Fair Set for Wednesday, Feb. 26

The Marblehead Teens Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Employers and teens will have the opportunity to meet and make work contacts at the Second Annual Marblehead Teen Job and Resource Fair, to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Marblehead High School.

Marblehead for Teens is partnering again with the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA to provide this exciting setting for teen candidates and prospective employers to make meaningful connections, get to know one another and explore opportunities for summer and year-round employment and internships.

The Marblehead Chamber of Commerce and the Marblehead Rotary are also actively supporting this initiative though direct contact with members and email blasts to businesses throughout the community.

According to Gene Cornfield, President of Marblehead for Teens, “We’re looking forward to building on the great success of last year’s inaugural event, where both private companies and non-profit organizations brought over 100 openings for the nearly 300 teens who attended.”

An exciting new feature this year is a matching program. Teens attending the fair will receive information about the skills and functions of the available jobs so they will be able to find the openings that best fit their interests and abilities.

Scott Hitchcock, Executive Director of the Y, stated, “As an employer of hundreds of local teens, we know that the supply of jobs for teens, especially in a difficult economy, does not meet the demand. We at the Y believe it is our responsibility to help advocate for job opportunities for teens and connect them to summer and year-round employment so they can learn valuable job skills. This job fair is a key element in that mission.”

Among last year’s employers, Doug Shube of Shubie’s Marketplace commented, “I spoke with approximately 50 teens, and I was really impressed with the maturity of the students. Many of them were dressed for the part, had great eye contact and even had resumes. I give them a lot of credit for taking the first step.”
