Crews Searching for Diver in Distress

The report of a diver in distress near Satan's Rock behind Children's Island on Tuesday morning has prompted the response from several North Shore communities, plus state and federal crews.

Update: At 10:55 a.m., Marblehead police said that the Northeast Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Police Dive Team and a U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter are headed to the area of Children's Island to assist in the search.

Original story: Marblehead emergency crews are involved in a water rescue near Satan's Rock behind Children's Harbor on Tuesday morning for a diver reportedly in distress, according to a post on the Marblehead Police Department Facebook page.

Police said that both Marblehead Harbormaster patrol boats and the new Marblehead Public Safety boat were on the scene, as of 10:35 a.m.

Christopher Welch on Twitter reported that the search was for a missing diver who had not been seen for 75 minutes and had 60 minutes of air in their tank.

Additionally, Salem Harbormasters, the Beverly Fire Department Dive Rescue team, U.S. Coast Guard Gloucester and the state Environmental Police were all responding to the area, according to Marblehead police.
