The following information was submitted by Darren Klein: The Marblehead 10 Year Old All-Stars completed a busy and exciting week of baseball on Sunday by winning their Round 1 Trophy Weekend Championship Game in the Bay State Tournament of Champions, which was held in Sudbury. To qualify for the trophy round, Marblehead pulled out a clutch come from behind win against Andover on Wednesday night behind a strong pitching performance by Kyle Saulnier, and defeated an enthusiastic Sudbury team on Thursday evening to clinch a spot in the Trophy Weekend. On Saturday, Marblehead defeated top seeded and previously undefeated Reading All-Stars 13-6. Sebastian Fisichelli and Ben Brennan led Marblehead by each pitching three strong innings and …

Marblehead scored four runs in the bottom of the first and sent the Nor'easters home with a 7-1 loss in the last game of the season.
The Marblehead Magicians U-10 softball team must have known that bad weather was heading toward town. The girls roared out to a 7-1 lead, and when the game was called, the girls had finished their season with a big win and an 11-2-1 record. “Just a solid game from our team,” Manager Peter Ernst said. “Sammy (Treff) and Mandy (Dumais) both pitched well, we went ahead early and the girls made it stand up.” “We wanted to finish the game, make it official, I’m glad we got it in, the result was not what we wanted, but Marblehead played a nice game,” Gloucester coach Alex McNeil said. It was easy to tell that Marblehead's players were happy to end the season on a high note. Tuesday's loss meant Gloucester finished their season with a record of 4…

Two of the best teams in the U-10 softball league battled it out for seven full innings Wednesday night, and when darkness fell it was all even at 6-6.
The Swampscott Blue Ice softball team came into Marblehead Wednesday night with a perfect 10-0 record and although they didn’t lose last night, the U-10 Magicians sure gave them something to think about. Marblehead (8-2-1) tied the game up 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Elizabeth Myers came home on a sharp single to right field with two outs by Sammy Treff off Swampscott’s Emma Tomlins. Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning and the game ended in a 6-6 tie. “That’s a very good team over there,” Marblehead manager Peter Ernst said. “They beat us (2-1) earlier in the season and the girls really wanted to win this one tonight.” “Most of the girls are a little young to really understand the importance of a Marblehead-…

Big first and second innings pave the way for a 12-9 win over the Panthers Tuesday night in Marblehead.
The U-14 Magicians softball team roared out of the gate with six runs in the first and five runs in the second, and held on to beat Beverly 12-9, in a game called after 4 ½ innings because of darkness. Tuesday night’s game at Volunteer Field was delayed a few minutes while heavy weather passed through town, and when the game got under way, both teams were eager to score runs. Beverly moved ahead 3-0 off starter Taylor Bouchard on a hit and two walks. Bouchard’s teammates didn’t waste any time getting those runs back, crossing the plate six times in the bottom of the first. Beverly used four pitchers Tuesday, and all four of them had a tough time throwing strikes. “We told the girls to be patient, wait for good pitches,” Marblehead manager …

In an attempt to allow kids to get more accustomed to football before they are of age to join city/town Youth Football leagues, North Shore Flag Football offers local children a non-contact option to gain football experience.
Up until recently in Marblehead, youths had no outlet to participate in football until the third grade. But all of that has changed with the formation of a Marblehead team that plays in the Salem League of the North Shore Flag Football League. "In Marblehead, participation in Youth Football does not begin until 3rd grade so until then my son, who loves football, would have no organized access to the game," said Jeff Plakans, the head coach of the 2010 Raiders, a team of Marblehead youths . "In my opinion there is a great deal of learning about the game (and sportsmanship, etc) that can happen well before that pads go on. The rules are created with safety first and foremost, and so it's perfect for the age group and they are learning a ton…

The final weeks of the fall sports season are upon us, and there are only two high school teams still competing. The football team lost one and won one recently, dropping a game to Beverly but rebounding with a win over Winthrop. The cross-country teams are both still in the hunt for State Championship hardware, as both the girls and boys qualified for the All-State Meets with third and fourth place finishes at the Eastern Mass. Divisional Championships. Marblehead Youth Football ended a very successful season in the Cape Ann Youth Football League, with two teams winning their Super Bowls, as the 8th Grade defeated Lynnfield 22-0 and the 6th Grade topped North Reading 26-20 in overtime. --- Home vs. Swampscott 5 p.m. J.V. Marblehead teams continue to have success as the fall seasons come to a close and tournaments start heating up. The story of the fall continues to be the cross-country girls, who completed a perfect 7-0 dual meet season and followed it up with a first place team finish at the Northeastern Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Bradley Palmer State Park. The field hockey team also capped off a terrific regular season, grabbing wins over Swampscott (2-1), Peabody (1-0), and Swampscott (6-2) again in their final game. It was another amazing week in Marblehead sports as the High School and youth teams saw successful outcomes. The top story is the continued dominance of the Girls Cross-Country team, as they ended Beverly's 51-meet unbeaten streak with a 26-29 win on Tuesday. Also making their presence felt are the Varsity Field Hockey girls who, with wins over Salem and Gloucester and a tie at home against Saugus, have set their sights on a trip deep into the MIAA State Tournament.
