This week's You Ask...Patch Answers column is focused on the future of Marblehead's Stramski Pier.
Each week, we set out to answer a question submitted by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column. Earlier this week, we received an email from Greg Lawrence, a local resident who was wondering what was next for the Stramski Pier project. He asked: Any way we can get an update on the construction of the Stramski Pier? Will it be ready for the summer sailing season? --- The Story So Far When we last checked in on the seven-year Stramski Pier Project in August, we learned that local officials were preparing for it to drag into the summer of 2013 because of a problem with permitting. The project, which Harbors and Waters Board members initially hoped would be completed by the end of the summer of 2012, stalled out over …

Harbors & Waters Board members don't expect the Stramski Pier to be ready until next summer.
The seven-year Stramski Pier Project will drag on into next summer because of a problem with permitting, Harbors and Waters Board members admitted at their meeting Monday night. The project, which board members initially hoped would be completed this summer, stalled out over the spring when Stramski Way resident Jill Goodman, an abutting neighbor, filed an appeal aimed at having the pier extension re-angled to provide "better depth and better aesthetics." Earlier this summer, Board Chairman Gary Gregory announced that a representative of the state's Department of Environmental Protection recommended that Goodman's appeal be dismissed. However, after clearing that hurdle, board members learned that work on the pier would have to be …

Town officials are hoping to have the pier at Stramski Beach finished and open this summer.
Now that an appeal filed by abutters has been shot down, town officials overseeing the construction of a pier at Stramski's Beach are hoping to open in time for the summer boating season. At a Harbor & Waters Board meeting Monday night, board chairman Gary Gregory announced that a representative of the state's Department of Environmental Protection has recommended that an appeal filed by Stramski Way resident Jill Goodman be dismissed. Earlier this spring, Goodman filed an appeal aimed at having the pier extension re-angled to provide "better depth and better aesthetics," Gregory said. "Basically, (The DEP) said aesthetics are not appropriate grounds for appealing our decision," Gregory said. "She also didn't provide any evidence …

A crew of workers from North Shore Marine Inc. were hard at work at Stramski's Beach Monday afternoon, preparing to add another 20-foot section to Marblehead's new pier. The pier, which is expected to be completed and opened to the public later this spring, will stretch out into Salem Harbor from a small beach off of Stramski Way, located about a quarter-mile from Gerry Playground. The pier project has put some steam behind a planned renovation project for an uninhabited town-owned home near the beach that Recreation and Parks Commission members would like to turn into a boating supply store and storage area.

For a little more than a week, North Shore Marine Inc. has been busy at Stramski's Beach, laying the groundwork for Marblehead's new pier. The company is expected to bring additional building materials over to the site by barge sometime this week. The pier will stretch out into Salem Harbor from a small beach off of Stramski Way, located about 100-yards from Gerry Playground. The pier project has put some steam behind a planned renovation project for an uninhabited town-owned home near the beach that Recreation and Parks Commission members would like to turn into a boating supply store and storage area.

Workers from North Shore Marine Inc. were working with heavy equipment at Stramski's Beach Tuesday afternoon, laying the groundwork for Marblehead's new pier into Salem Harbor. Last week, North Shore Marine representative Kevin Pelletier was glad to report that the town had granted his company a building permit to construct the public pier. The company, he said, is expected to bring additional building materials over to the site by barge sometime this week. The pier will stretch about 100 feet out into Salem Harbor from a small beach off of Stramski Way, located about 100-yards from Gerry Playground. The pier project has put some steam behind a planned renovation project for an uninhabited town-owned home near the beach that Recreation and…

Wondering what's going on with the proposed pier project at Stramski Beach?
Every week we set out to answer a question submitted by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column. This week, we had a local resident write in with a question about a proposed pier project at Stramski Beach. They asked: The Harbor and Waters Board said the construction of a pier at Stramski Beach was expected to begin in December. Why haven't they begun building it yet? The reader who sent in this week's question was right - in late November, Harbor and Waters Board members said they expected materials for an upcoming pier project at Stramski's Beach would arrive by barge sometime last month. However, those planning the project said the late arrival of materials, wet weather, unfinished paperwork and several required…

The site of the future Stramski Pier has been approved by town officials and should be ready for work by the end of the week.
The materials for an upcoming pier project at Stramski's Beach are ready and waiting in Salem and work to construct the town's newest pier should begin before the end of the month. At their meeting at the Harbormaster's office Monday night, members of the town's Harbor and Waters Board revisited plans to construct a public pier stretching out into Salem Harbor from a small beach off of Stramski Way, located about 100-yards from Gerry Playground. According to Chairman Gary Gregory, the latest news is that the site has been toured and approved by members of the Department of Environmental Protection and the Recreation and Parks Department and that Kevin Pelletier, of the Salem-based North Shore Marine Inc., will be shipping materials to the …

The Harbor and Waters Board revisited plans to construct a public pier into Salem Harbor at their meeting Monday night.
The materials for an upcoming pier project at Stramski's Beach should arrive by barge sometime next month and the town's newest pier shouldn't take very long to build, according to town officials close to the project. At their meeting at the Harbormaster's office Monday night, members of the town's Harbor and Waters Board revisited plans to construct a public pier stretching out into Salem Harbor from a small beach off of Stramski Way, located about 100-yards from Gerry Playground. According to Chairman Gary Gregory, the latest news is that Kevin Pelletier, of the Salem-based North Shore Marine Inc., is just waiting on structural materials that will be shipped to the site by barge sometime next month. "I think they'll start this in …
