Marblehead Boys' Soccer Team Ready to Move Forward [VIDEO]

After a dismal 2010 season, second-year coach Darren Benedick's soccer team is ready to make this year one to remember.

After a rough 2010 soccer season that produced only one win and some dissension as the losses mounted, Marblehead High School's boys' team is hoping to make the upcoming season one to remember. “It was tough, the losing,” co-captain Danny Plunkett said. “We just tried, as a team, to get in the best possible shape we could for the 2011 season over the summer.” Last season’s team finished 1-18-1, with a win over Beverly and a tie against Revere. Plunkett and co-captain Mike Brenan will have to watch the start of the year from the bench, both are out with injuries. Plunkett has a growth plate fracture in his hip, (an emulsion fracture) and is out for 2-3 weeks. Brenan is having meniscus surgery on the first day of school. The team is hoping …

Athlete of the Week: Danny Plunkett [VIDEO]

This soccer co-captain is ready to get Marblehead back on track during his senior season.

The Marblehead High School soccer team will open up the 2011 season at practice this weekend and for senior co-captain Danny that means it is time to put last season behind him and focus on the future. “We had a really, really rough time last year,” Plunkett said. “We only won one game and it was tough to keep the team's morale up when the losses kept coming and coming.” The 17-year-old sweeper has played for the varsity team since his sophomore year and will share the role of captain this season with fellow seniors Mike Brenan and Chris Peterson. Plunkett loves soccer, but says his first love is track - specifically the field events. Basically, if you can throw it or toss it, Plunkett does it. Danny set personal bests during his junior …
