Little Theatre's Rock Musical, 'Next to Normal,' Opens on Friday

Marblehead Little Theatre Needs Your Help

The Marblehead Little Theater is looking to local residents to help match a grant they received toward the installation of second floor bathrooms.

The Marblehead Little Theatre recently received a competitive Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund grant of $13,750 to construct two second floor bathrooms - and now they are looking for help from the local residents to match that amount. This is the second MCFF/MassDevelopment grant awarded to the Little Theatre. The first – for $60,000 - was awarded in 2009 to help fund the construction of the three-stop elevator that allowed the theatre to open up the upper floors of the building. The abandoned former Marblehead Central Firehouse building was purchased from the town in 2000, and over the past decade, the organization has raised and invested over $1.5 million in the renovation project. Art Piece Adorns Little Theatre Entrance

The latest addition to the Marblehead Little Theatre is a locally-created bronze art piece mounted inside the theatre's new vestibule entrance.

Over the last six months, local residents have watched as the Marblehead Little Theatre's new front entrance has taken shape. The construction of a new glass vestibule and the recent restoration and illumination of what used to be the hose-drying tower of the former School Street Central Firehouse has turned the once-abandoned building into a source of local pride. The latest addition to the building is a 10-foot-wide art piece called "Comedy and Tragedy," created by local artist Elaine Caliri Daly, which has been mounted above the theatre's front entrance. According to the theatre's Board Chairman Charles Gessner, Daly modeled the piece in clay and then enlarged it through bronze casting. The vestibule has been left open so that Daly's …

Movies Return to Marblehead Little Theatre

The School Street theatre will be showing movies on Friday nights next month.

The following press release was issued by Charles Gessner: Friday Films at Marblehead Little Theatre on School Street return in November with four “Swashbuckler” films celebrating swaggering, adventurous heroes and heroines. Nov. 4: “Captain Blood” with Errol Flynn, Olivia de Haviland, Basil Rathbone and Ross Alexander. In seventeenth century England, Irish Dr. Peter Blood (Errol Flynn) is convicted of treason against the King for aiding a wounded friend who had participated in the Monmouth Rebellion in accordance with his professional duties.
