At Saturday's Northeastern Conference track championships, Marblehead's senior captain remained unbeaten this season.
It's been quite a track season for Marblehead High's Josh Beloff. The senior captain went undefeated in the regular season. He continued that impressive performance yesterday in the Northeastern Conference track championships. The Salem News has a great profile of the young athlete, who is headed to Sacred Heart University on a track scholarship. Beloff won the 200 meter dash and the long jump on Saturday. Other Magicians who won their events included Conrad Rousseau in the 400 meter hurdles, Lily Cummings in the high jump and Kelly Roland in javelin. Here are the Marblehead boys and girls results from yesterday's conference championships, via Cool Running. Boys 100 meter dash Alex Fusegni, 12.00 (6th place) Chris Wiley, 12.09 (7th place…

Newsweek magazine's 2013 rankings of best U.S. high schools came out Monday. Marblehead High wasn't on that list, but it is on others.
On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked the top high schools in the U.S. — And while Marblehead High isn't on the list, that might not mean much. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. Marblehead Patch reached out to the district's superintendent to see if the town responded to the survey, but we haven't heard back from him. Marblehead High also didn't appear on a similar U.S. News and World Report survey. But last year Boston Magazine honored Marblehead High as the 21st-best high school in Boston or the Boston suburbs. You can see the details from the Newsweek survey about nearby ranked high schools by clicking on the …

Marblehead's Sean Taylor earns himself distinction as top wrestler in team history, closing out high school career at NE Championships. Taylor first wrestled as sixth- and seventh-grader, winning Mass. Big East Youth Tournaments.
[The following article was submitted by Robert Powell and Rik Taylor.] Sean Taylor ended a historic high school wrestling career in fairy tale fashion last weekend. Ranked sixth in Division 3 at the beginning of the season, the Marblehead heavyweight made it to 49th Annual New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships, and made it to the “Quarter-Finals top eight” before being handed a loss by the eventual fourth place finisher. It was not enough for a medal, but it was more than enough for the Marblehead senior who began wrestling in sixth grade. Taylor, a co-captain of the Swampscott-Marblehead wrestling team, steamrolled through his first two matches at the New England tournament. In his first match, he pinned John Ware of …
A 5-minute documentary filmed by two Marblehead High students is a finalist in a special showcase in the 2013 Salem Film Festival.
Did you catch the steampunk version of Sweeney Todd this past fall at Marblehead High? Two students also went behind-the-scenes with the high school musical production and filmed a 5-minute documentary that's now a finalist in this year's Salem Film Festival. MHS students Savanna Cole and Calvin Falk produced the aptly named documentary, "Behind the Scenes at Sweeney Todd," which features candid moments with the cast and crew. The annual festival, which takes place at Cinema Salem, includes a showcase for Bay State high school students in the way of a 5-minute documentary format. The MHS production is one of the top 10 finalists selected to be screend on March 7. Admission is free. Showtime is 7 p.m. in the main theater.

The preliminary data was based on four-year cohort groups and released by the U.S. Department of Education on Monday. Final numbers will be released in the coming months. Marblehead High School finds itself well-above the state average with a 96.1 percent rate of graduation, which is still an improvement over recent years.
