A Look Back at the 'Summer of Sandler'

Check out this interactive timeline, which offers a look back at Marblehead's Grown Ups 2 experience from start to finish.

Four months and $4.4 million later, Marblehead's Grown Ups 2 experience has officially come to an end. The filming of Adam Sandler's next big comedy hit was the story of the summer in Marblehead and many local residents were along for the ride from start to finish. It began with the controversy surrounding the potential use of Marblehad High School's Piper Field for filming and the public forum where the idea was ultimately shot down. Soon crews arrived on Vassar Road, at Marblehead Veterans Middle School and shot an unforgettable cheerleader car wash scene on Rockaway Street. Next, storefronts across downtown Marblehead were transformed to depict actual businesses found in Manchester, N.H., and the Old Town House became an aerobics studio…

Grown Ups 2 Crews Spent Millions in Marblehead

Location Manager Mark Fitzgerald attended the Selectmen's meeting Wednesday night.

Columbia Pictures Location Manager Mark Fitzgerald attended the Board of Selectmen's meeting at Abbot Hall Wednesday night to thank town officials, residents and local business owners for their continued support over the last few months. "We are glad that the task was achieved and that the mountain was climbed but there is also a little bit of sadness," Fitzgerald said. "We've met so many genuinely nice, sweet, kind people who have opened up their doors, their businesses and have allowed us to come into town and capture the essence of Marblehead on film - and when it comes out next year you guys will see a lot of your streets, a lot of your buildings and you'll be proud of it." In addition to expressing his gratitude, Fitzgerald said he …

Let's Settle This

Does This Fan Look Like Adam Sandler?

You tell us - does this local fan look like the Grown Ups 2 star?

On Monday we received a few shots from fans who bumped into Adam Sandler while he was off the set of Grown Ups 2 and out and about in Marblehead. They included a photo from the check-out line at Crosby's Market and this one, taken while Sandler was spotted shopping at Village Plaza. Jonathan Sanger stopped the movie star for a side-by-side shot because people tell him that if he let his sideburns grow, threw on some shades and wore a hat, he could be Adam Sandler's double. So we have to ask - is Sanger a possible candidate for Sandler's next stunt double or do you just not see the resemblance.

Terry's Owner to Make Grown Ups 2 Appearance

Terry's Ice Cream Shop's signature ice cream truck was featured in a Grown Ups 2 scene last week.

When Columbia Pictures approached Terry's Ice Cream Shop owner Carlos Rocha about using his ice cream truck for the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2, he jumped at the chance. "I knew it was the kind of thing that will only happen once in a lifetime," Rocha said Saturday afternoon. "I was very excited." It wasn't long after giving filmmakers permission to use the truck that Rocha learned he would be handing out ice cream cones while cameras were rolling. The truck was used in a scene that was shot in front of the Old Town House on Monday, featuring Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and others. Though he won't have any lines in the movie - Rocha said he will always remember serving ice cream to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. "I can't …

A Grown Ups 2 Gift Gone to Waste?

The MHS All Sports Boosters may not inherit the materials from the Grown Ups 2 Ice Cream House.

Earlier this month, we ran a story announcing that Columbia Pictures had agreed to donate the materials from the Grown Ups 2 Ice Cream House at Gatchell Park to Marblehead High School's All Sports Boosters. Now that Columbia Pictures crews are preparing to take down the structure, it doesn't look like the donation is going to happen, a member of the Boosters Club said Tuesday afternoon.  In spite of the stand's lack of electricity, foundation and running water, Boosters co-President Tricia Rockett said her husband, T. Michael Rockett, and local real estate agent Jack Attridge approached Columbia Pictures earlier this month about having the stand donated to the boosters. The film's producer, she said, was quick to offer up the set materials…
