Marblehead for Teens to Host 1st Annual Job Fair

It's a career and resource fair for local high school students and local employers, which will be held March 12. Sponsors are still needed.

If you're a local teen contemplating your future career or looking for a summer job, mark off March 12 on your calendar; conversely, if you're a local business owner looking for a summer intern or future employee, Marblehead for Teens wants you as well. The local nonprofit group is hosting it's first ever Teen Job & Resource Fair next month at the Marblehead Community Center. Marblehead for Teens, established in 2006 to provide leadership opportunities and safe recreational activities for teens in light of sobering local statistics on teenage substance abuse, says there's likewise a need to connect teens with career resources and training. Executive director Molly Williams was not immediately available for comment on the upcoming event, …

What's Next for Marblehead for Teens?

This week we're asking you - what would you recommend Marblehead For Teens do next?

Every week we tackle a question submitted by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column. We're going to do a bit of a role reversal this week.  This week we have a question for you, our readers, regarding the future of Marblehead For Teens, a local start-up nonprofit aimed at establishing a teen-managed teen center in Marblehead. According to a post on the organization's Facebook page, Marblehead For Teens recently delayed their plans to move into the former Sundance building on Pleasant Street, citing a lack of funding. Executive Director Molly Williams said the nonprofit's primary focus will remain on fundraising for the time being and "building up its board of directors." So, we have to ask - what do you think …

Teen Center Granted Special Use Permit

Marblehead For Teens was granted a special use permit by the Zoning Board Tuesday night.

Local nonprofit Marblehead For Teens was granted a special use permit Tuesday night by the Zoning Board of Appeals, paving the way for the organization's move into their new home on Pleasant Street. The approval of the special use permit, which passed by a 4-1 vote, dismayed a small group of abutting neighbors who attended Tuesday's meeting to speak out against the "teen-managed teen center" because they worried about excessive noise, alcohol and drug use, late nights and increased traffic at an already dangerous intersection. Appearing before the board was Marblehead For Teens' Executive Director, Molly Williams, of Marblehead, who assured members that every effort would be made to alleviate anticipated traffic problems and keep the noise…

We are very pleased with the Zoning Board's decision and are grateful for receiving such widespread community support. This is a perfect building and location for the new teen center. We are sensitive to the neighbor's concerns and are doing as much as possible to address issues regarding traffic, potential noise, …   more ›

Uh...people do live behind the building: Roundhouse Rd. And Anderson St. I guess these people are unimportant to you. And as for retaining the business: if the entire business plan is based on 32 seats outside for a few months a year (which has been written about in other publications), it doesn't sound very sustainable.   more ›

Will This Be the New Teen Center?

Local nonprofit Marblehead For Teens may have found their new home on Pleasant Street.

A local nonprofit that is hoping to open a teen-managed teen center in Marblehead may have found their new home on Pleasant Street, the organization's executive director said Monday. At a meeting last month, the town's Board of Selectmen enthusiastically threw their support behind Marblehead For Teens, a start-up nonprofit with the goal of opening a space for local teens. Appearing before the board was Executive Director and local resident Molly Williams, who said it was "a privilege and an honor" to be Marblehead For Teen's top representative. "This initiative coming before the town of Marblehead is incredibly exciting and represents six years of very hard work on the part of this board," she said, adding, "this is more than just a teen …
