The following information was provided to Marblehead Patch by Patricia Rietti: Marblehead High School's Cheerleaders took first place for Division 1 and best overall at Austin Prep's Cheerleading Competition last week. They also received a bid to the Regional Competition this Sunday at Beverly High School. If they continue to execute their routine with such precision, they have an excellent chance of advancing to States in two weeks.

The 18 members of Marblehead High School's cheering squad do much more than cheerlead. Every year, during the fall sports season, this spirited group regularly goes above and beyond to support our local athletes. The MHS cheering squad was the first of the high school's teams to hit the practice field in preparation for the 2011 season. The team started workouts and conditioning sessions as a unit two weeks ago, and they typically spend at least two hours a day working on routines during the season. The cheerleaders yell for the home team of course, but this group also incorporates dance, gymnastics and precise choreography into their high-energy routines. “The team works incredibly hard, they really bust it when we practice,” cheering …
