Casa Corona Awarded Liquor License

The Board of Selectmen recently awarded a full liquor license to Marblehead's Casa Corona restaurant.

For the owners of Casa Corona, the road to a full liquor license was a long one. At a meeting at Abbot Hall earlier this month, the Marblehead Board of Selectmen unanimously approved awarding a full liquor license to the owners of the Smith Street Mexican restaurant, which opened last fall. The restaurant is expected to begin serving alcohol sometime next month. Unable to secure a local liquor license when they first opened, owners Felix and Jose Bracamontes applied for and eventually received the town's first ever BYOB liquor license. Have you been to Casa Corona since they opened? Are you glad they now have a full liquor license? Let us know in the comments section below.

Kevin, Who arranged for Palmers to get the license? Was Casa Carona (or any other restaurant/bar) in the mix? No I think the issue here is that somehow Palmers had the inside track and the Selectmen were involved in giving two licenses to the VFW.   more ›

Casa Corona Granted Marblehead's First BYOB License

Patrons can now bring alcoholic beverages along with them when they visit Marblehead's new Mexican restaurant on Smith Street.

Feel like a glass of wine with your guacamole? How about a cold beer with those nachos? Casa Corona, an authentic Mexican restaurant that opened on Smith Street in August, was granted Marblehead's first ever carry-in alcoholic beverage license at Wednesday's meeting of the Board of Selectmen. Which means that beginning today, customers can bring a bottle of wine or a couple of beers along with them when they stop by for lunch or dinner. Although the town's four remaining carry-in alcoholic beverage licenses are valued at $400 a piece, board members opted to prorate Casa Corona's license - meaning the restaurant's owners paid only $33.33 for their new license Wednesday night. What You Need to Know Before Bringing in Alcohol: Are you excited…

Selectmen Pave the Way for BYOB Licenses in Marblehead

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved recently-crafted BYOB regulations pertaining to carry-in alcoholic beverage licenses in Marblehead.

Get ready Marblehead, you may soon be able to bring beer and wine along with you when visiting properly-licensed local restaurants, thanks to a decision made by the Board of Selectmen Wednesday night. At their meeting at Abbot Hall, board members unanimously approved the implementation of local BYOB regulations that they've hammered out over the last two months and paved the way for as many as five carry-in alcoholic beverage licenses in town. The need for BYOB regulations was pushed to the forefront in September when Marblehead's new Mexican restaurant on Smith Street, Casa Corona, filed a request for permission to allow patrons to bringing along their own alcohol beverages. Casa Corona representatives were on hand for Wednesday's meeting…

Selectmen Preparing to Vote on BYOB

The town's Selectmen are expected to make a decision regarding BYOB regulations in Marblehead at their meeting Wednesday night.

Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren asked that the Board of Selectmen "do their homework" when it came to reviewing recently crafted BYOB regulations in the hopes of bringing the matter to a vote at their meeting Wednesday night. Board members have been working with Town Counsel Lisa Mead to put together local regulations ever since Marblehead's new Mexican restaurant, Casa Corona, filed a request last month for permission to allow their patrons the option of bringing along their own alcohol beverages. "We're hoping that with this homework, that we'll be ready to vote on this Wednesday," Chelgren said. If the regulations are approved, Casa Corona owners Felix and Jose Bracamontes will be called in to discuss their application at te board's …

If the Selectmen are suportive of a growing downtown (not a certainty at all) then this should pass with little discussion. Question why limit it to five? Any restaurant should be able to have BYOB. Is there a state law limiting the number of licenses?   more ›

Casa Corona Hoping for BYOB

Marblehead's new Mexican restaurant is hoping customers will be able to bring their own drinks.

Unable to secure a liquor license of their own, the owners of the recently-opened Casa Corona Restaurant are now looking for permission to have their customers bring alcohol in with them. A formal request for BYOB designation was read aloud at Wednesday night's meeting of the Board of Selectmen and members opted to refer the request to Marblehead's Town Counsel. "We refer to town counsel, for further review of the appropriate procedures and guidelines for BYOB," Chairwoman Jackie Belf-Becker said. The restaurant opened last month in the space next to Evan's New York Style Deli, which was formerly occupied by Trattoria Sablone. What do you think about a local restaurant offering BYOB? Would you be willing to bring your own bottle with you? …

I agree with John Buba. Can someone please explain the rationale for limiting liquor licenses to approved restaurants anyway? We're not talking about a bar on every corner. Aren't we interested in encouraging the growth of successful business in a town where it's been tough for these restaurants to prosper. Too many vacant storefronts in Marblehead these days. We know a restaurant can't really …   more ›

What's Moving In?

Casa Corona Opening on Smith Street

Marblehead's newest Mexican restaurant will open later this spring on Smith Street.

Felix Bracamontes was hard at work inside the future home of Casa Corona Restaurant on Smith Street Wednesday afternoon, hoping to get everything ready for a June grand opening. Bracamontes will be opening Marblehead's new authentic Mexican restaurant with his brother, Jose Bracamontes, who spent five years working as a chef at Mexico Lindo in Melrose. The restaurant will be opening in the space next to Evan's New York Style Deli, which was formerly occupied by Trattoria Sablone, "sometime in the next two months," Bracamontes said.  Local residents can expect to see an awning with the restaurant's name installed sometime this week, he said. Although he and his brother haven't finalized the menu, Bracamontes said customers can expect …
