Swampscott-Marblehead Wrestling Team Seeks Student-Athletes

Are you interested in becoming a better football player? Consider wrestling as your winter sport!

The Swampscott-Marblehead high school wrestling team is seeking student-athletes who are interested in joining the team or learning more about the sport. If you are interested in attending a captain's practice or learning more about the sport, please contact Jake Powell, the team's captain, at jake.rpowell1@gmail.com.  Wrestling, according to NFL All-Star Roddy White and countless other NFL players, is an especially good sport for football players.  "I'm a great NFL football player… because of the training I went through as a wrestler," says White. Read more about what White has to say about wrestling here.  You can also watch videos of last year's team in action at here.

Football Magicians Looking to Avenge 2011 'Meltdown'

Marblehead High School's varsity football team will look to get some payback this afternoon against Newburyport.

Marblehead High School's varsity football team will travel to Newburyport this afternoon hoping to remain undefeated on the season - and for those players who were on the team last year, to get a little payback for a brutal loss last Octboer. Although the Magicians led 20-0 at halftime and 26-7 late in the fourth quarter last October, the Clippers put 21 straight points on the board and found the end zone with just 21 seconds left to steal a win on the road. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Newburyport High School. Click the video attached to this post to view highlights from last year's game.

MHS Football Ready to Get Started [VIDEO]

Head coach Jim Rudloff welcomed 105 players to the first football practice of the season Monday afternoon at Marblehead High School.

Last season, Marblehead High School's football team went for the win on a two-point conversion against the Big Blue of Swampscott on the last play of the year. The conversion failed, and the Headers came up just one point short, finishing the 2010 season with a 5-6 record. Head coach Jim Rudloff isn’t the only person excited to get this season underway, quarterback Gus Percy said he is excited to be back on the field after a tough 2010 season. “I’m excited, the team is excited to get going,” Percy said before the first practice Monday. “We’ve got quite a few good players and some good leaders on this team.” Percy, a senior, will take his first snaps under center as a varsity quarterback when the Magicians scrimmage Melrose on Saturday. …
