Does "specializes in serving up signature homemade Italian meals" mean that they will be actually making the food at home & then bringing it to the store to sell?   more ›

Comella's Plans for March Opening

The town's newest Italian eatery is preparing to open its doors in the next couple months.

Comella's will be dishing up its signature homemade Italian meals in Marblehead by March if all goes according to plan. If you've gone by 50 Atlantic Ave. recently you've seen the "Now Hiring" signs in the windows of the new restaurant -- managers, front staff and cooks are welcome to apply online -- as well as signs of the interior renovations underway. A recent update on the company's Facebook page said its entree to the North Shore dining scene will be opening the first week in March. Co-owner John Comella was not immediately available for comment. The small eatery is expected to seat 12, but generate most of its business from meals-to-go. Work Begins on Atlantic Ave at Future Comella's

First signs that work has begun this week on the interior of 50 Atlantic Ave., which will be the future home of Comella's.

There were signs of life inside the former Moran Studios space on Atlantic Avenue Tuesday morning where a new Italian eatery is slated to open up later this year. The vacant commercial storefront will be the future home of Comella's, a family-owned chain of Italian restaurants and the fourth Italian spot in Marblehead's downtown. The small eatery is expected to seat 12, but generate most of its business from meals-to-go. The owners said back in October they expected to be open within six months. The Zoning Board of Appeals granted approvals for the new business this past fall, changing the allowed use of the building back to a restaurant from retail. Gene Comella says he opened his first restaurant in Wellesley back in 1988 with the …

Comella's Restaurant Coming to Atlantic Avenue

The co-owner of Comella's Restaurants appeared before the Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday night.

It looks like a Comella's Restaurant location will be opening on Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead. At their meeting at Abbot Hall Tuesday night, members of Marblehead's Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a request from Comella's Restaurants co-owner John Comella to open up a restaurant in the former Moran Studios space at the corner of Commercial Street and Atlantic Avenue. Although Comella's request was to change the official use of the building from retail to restaurant, board members noted that they were actually switching it back - because the location was formerly the home of Shipyard Galley, which served breakfast and lunch.  The small, "fast casual" Italian restaurant is expected to have seating for 12 and while sit-down …

Our town could use a great breakfast joint that serves eggs, pancakes, bacon, waffles, crepes AND that also has a juice bar. A real juice bar with wheatgrass shots or healthy smoothies. If I had a clue about how to run a restaurant, I'd open one myself... right where Fruit of the Four Seasons used to be!   more ›
