Chet's to Host Fundraiser for Local Friends of Animals Groups

The fundraiser is March 2 at Chet's and raffle are on sale now at the store or Marblehead Bank.

Starting today, you can help support some North Shore animals in need by heading over to Chet’s Video & Candy Shoppe. Chet's says it's holding a fundraiser next month for North Shore volunteer Friends of Animal Groups, and to get things started on the raffle prizes for the March 2 event, tickets go on sale today at the store and Marblehead Bank. Thep prizes are "five baskets full of goodies," according to Chet's, and that includes a Blu Ray player. The fundraiser will benefit Friends of Marblehead Abandoned Animals (FOMAA), Friends of Beverly Animals (FOBA) and Friends of Lynn Saugus Animals (FOLSA). The event, which will be held at Chet's, will run from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a raffle drawing at 8 pm. There will also be special sales …

Chet's Video Offers Terry's Ice Cream a Helping Hand

Chet Strout, owner of Chet's Video, has agreed to allow Terry's Ice Cream Shop to sell ice cream from a row of parking spaces reserved for his customers until the ice cream parlor can get back on its feet.

You may call it a case of one local business owner doing another a solid. You may call it a story of the "only in Marblehead" variety. No matter what you call it, in an age of cut-throat business tactics, a recent gesture made by one local business owner can certainly be considered uncommon. It was less than two weeks ago when Chet Strout, owner of Chet's Video on Essex Street, received word that Terry's Ice Cream Shop had suffered such severe smoke damage in a mid-afternoon fire that it would be forced to close its doors. The July 13 fire, which local fire officials believe broke out in the building's ceiling after burning for some time, also resulted in the closure of 5 Corners Kitchen - though Terry's is believed to have suffered the …
