A public forum regarding the possible use of public school grounds to film the upcoming Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2 and a possible "re-do" of Marblehead High School's Piper Field will be held tonight at Village School. French students from Marblehead Veterans Middle School learned the ins and outs of the French sport Kin-Ball Monday.
The following information was provided by Kristen Russett: On Monday, April 30, Marblehed Veterans Middle School French students learned the fast and fun sport of Kin-ball. French teacher Kristen Russett invited two coaches from Quebec to teach the French students Kin-ball. Marblehead Veterans Middle School students had a great time playing the game in French. Kin-ball was invented in Quebec in the 1980s, and it is the only sport played with three teams at one time. Using a giant 4-foot diameter ball weighing 2 pounds, this sport stresses cooperation, teamwork, fitness, accessibility and sportsmanship. Wally The Green Monster made a recent visit to Tower School.

The Red Sox mascot visited with students, sat in on a meeting with the Head of School, played a few notes on the xylophone, and generally got the kids psyched for Opening Day! Before heading to his next location, Wally was presented with a collection of artwork that the pre-kindergarten class made in his honor.

14 students from Veterans Middle School recently went to a Bruins game and met Patrice Bergeron.
The following information was provided by Kristen Purdy Russett: On April 3, 14 lucky French students from Marblehead Veterans Middle School attended the Boston Bruins game at the TD Garden as Patrice Bergeron's special guests. Ms. Kristen Purdy Russett, the middle school's French teacher, selected these 14 students for this once-in-a-lifetime event through an essay contest. The winning students enjoyed the game from Patrice's personal luxury suite, appeared in a group shot on the scoreboard, but best of all, were invited to meet the Bruins' star forward after the game. The following information was provided by Marblehead High School's girls' track coach Michael Toomey: Marblehead High School's girls' track team opened up the 2012 season with a convincing 102-29 win over Saugus. "We had a lot of great performances and five qualifying marks for the MIAA state meet later this season," Toomey said in an email. "We have a lot of work to do over the next few weeks and a big meet against Danvers on Monday, but its nice to have the first one under our belt." Event winners: Ferrucci (800), Goetz (100, shot, jav) and Thorne (TJ) all qualified for states.

Retired Boston College history professor Paul Breines recently spoke to students at Cohen Hillel Academy about how he came to be a Freedom Rider.
Freedom Rider Paul Breines had questions long before he boarded a bus in July of 1961 to challenge the Jim Crow segregated south. He wondered what it meant to be a Jewish person - what it meant to be a white person. He pondered what it would feel like to be a black person. He asked himself where he would best fit in a photograph that he saw as a youngster - a black and white photograph of a lynching. Two young black men hanging dead from a limb above a crowd of white people, men and women in shirt sleeves, some smoking, some smiling.
