Marblehead Author Worried She May Be Called as Witness in Whitey Bulger Trial

Phyllis Karas told the Salem News she that she hasn't yet been subpoenaed or contacted by the prosecution or defense, but has been told she might be called.

A Marblehead author could wind up as a witness for the defense in the Whitey Bulger trial. The Salem News reports that Phyllis Karas, co-author of "Brutal: The Untold Story of My Life Inside Whitey Bulger’s Irish Mob," has been told she might be called. However, she has yet to be supoenaed or contacted by the prosecution or defense. Man Pulled From YMCA Pool in Critical Condition

The man is hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital.

A 47-year-old man pulled from the Lynch van Otterloo YMCA pool by life guards Monday night was listed in critical condition Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Police identified the man as Igor Fokin of Lynn.  Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, Salem firefighters and police officers responded to a pool emergency at the Leggs Hill Road YMCA in Marblehead. The man was swimming laps when a life guard noticed he stopped moving forward, YMCA Executive Director Scott Hitchcock said earlier. Two lifeguards pulled the man from the pool and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Marblehead Man Sentenced to Three Months after Head-Butting Incident

A Marblehead man will spend three months in a correctional facility after assaulting a MBTA bus driver.

A Chelsea District Court judge this week sentenced a Marblehead man to three months in a house of correction after he plead guilty to head-butting a MBTA bus driver last year. According to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley, Marblehead resident John Kerivan struck the bus driver has he was picking up passengers at Wonderland Station on July 23, 2012. Kerivan recently pleaded guilty to assault and battery on a public employee Monday. His trial was about to begin in Chelsea District Court. Judge Benjamin Barnes gave Kerivan the lower sentence but more than Kerivan requested.

Swimmer Pulled From Pool at Marblehead YMCA

A man was rushed to the hospital Monday night after being taken from the pool at the Leggs Hill YMCA.

A man was rushed to the hospital by ambulance late Monday night after being taken out of the pool at the Lynch van Otterloo YMCA. Shortly after 9 p.m., Salem firefighters and police officers responded to a reported emergency in the pool area of the Leggs Hill Road YMCA in Marblehead. According to YMCA Executive Director Scott Hitchcock, a 47-year-old man was swimming laps in the pool when a guard on duty noticed that he stopped moving forward. A pair of lifeguards reportedly pulled the man from the pool and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. The man has not yet been identified and his condition is unknown.
