The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. There were 114 DUI fatalities in Massachusetts in 2012, which were 34 percent of traffic-related fatalities last year, according to Mothers…

Marblehead hosted classroom and field training for its firefighters and those from Swampscott, Gloucester and Oxford departments this week.
Twenty-eight firefighters converged on Riverhead Beach Wednesday running a network of lines through fire trucks and sending streams of water arcing into the harbor. At each truck, teachers from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy reviewed pump skills and critiqued firefighters' actions. Instructors peppered crews with questions, hosting mini field quizzes amid the din of hissing water and rumbling pumps. The goal, said Marblehead Fire Chief Jason Gilliland, is to keep firefighters' skills sharp for the real deal — fires. They know the drill. Marblehead firefighters have been through 12 weeks of fire academy training. "They know pumps and hydraulics front and back," the fire chief said. But the classroom studies, held Tuesday, and …

The Muscular Dystrophy Association recognized the Marblehead firefighter as the Massachusetts Above and Beyond Award winner.
Marblehead veteran firefighter Tim Doane goes above and beyond the call in enthusiasm and results helping the MDA fight muscle disease. For this reason the Muscular Dystrophy Association recently named him the Above and Beyond Award winner for the entire state of Massachusetts. The firefighter has personally raised about $25,000 with his 5th annual Cooking for a Cure event. Cooking for a Cure raises money by serving food prepared by firefighters from area departments. Last year, with Doane's help, the Marblehead Fire Department raised $16,604, placing them 8th in the entire state of Massachusetts (behind cities such as Boston, Fall River, New Bedford and Cambridge). Marblehead firefighter Jeff Martin said Doane's dedication and hard work…
The child was later found at a house where he was reportedly eating cookies.
A 911 call about a missing 6-year-old child with autism set off a flurry of searching Wednesday afternoon. The child was eventually found at a Lime Street home, where he had reportedly been eating cookies. The search started after police received a 911 call at 2:16 p.m. about the missing child. He was wearing a blue top with the word Jog on it, and blue rain boots, according to the police report. The boy's mother looked for the child at her home, the report stated. Police and firefighters searched areas including Redds Pond and Burial Hill. Searchers checked other locations including the Coffin Street area, the rink, and Black Joe's area. The mom reported that she had seen her child climbing on a neighbor's fence before she lost sight of…
