Food has dropped off and they have many bad employees. This place has so much history and little atmosphere. The best thing that happened to it was having new owners. A fun time is still had.
Maddie's Sail Loft
781-631-9824
For a genuine feel of a historic seaport town with deep roots in the American Revolution, Maddie's Sail Loft is the perfect choice. Antique fishing memorabilia adorns the walls while locals share stories of Marblehead in the heyday of it's seaports and harbors. The menu is full of fresh seafood options. The store truly combines the atmosphere of an ancient coastal community with the comfort of modern times such as a jukebox, high-definition televisions and an impressive bar selection.

Since the new ownership took over a couple of years back the food has been much much better. It's now my first choice when going out to dinner in Marblehead. Casual, affordable, great food and drinks. My wife always goes for seafood dishes like scallops or lobster risotto. I usualy go with steak tips, burgers or sandwiches, fish tacos, chowder. Lots on the menu to choose from. Always run into someone I know. Owner is always there making sure the place is run right.
Some of the best times of my life were had in this place. The new owner Loretta has done a great job raising the food standards and bringing it back from the dead. If you haven't been in recently... go back and try it again. I'm sure you will be impressed. Good food, reasonably priced and a great drink.
Being an old guy, I remember the Sail Loft from the 1960s when Kenny Duncan ran the place and "Ma" Duncan was in charge of the kitchen. Best food around then, can't say about now (although I did have a tasty meal of friend scallops there within in the past 5 years). But I'm glad to see the appearance is the same.

Love it! Great food, at more reasonable prices than the competition. The drinks are still as strong as ever, and the crowd is always cheery! Loretta has done a fantastic job bringing the place back from a dark spell. Keep it up!!!
