Blankets Full of Grace: Knitting For Newborns

My name is Grace Beatty. I am a Tower School student who loves to knit. I founded Blankets Full of Grace in 2012. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of newborn babies in the special care nursery at the North Shore Medical Center. Hundreds of babies are placed in the special care nursery each year. These newborns require constant monitoring to ensure their health. Often, babies in the nursery do not have a family support system. With this in mind, Blankets Full of Grace began. I thought it would be nice for each newborn to have a hand-knit blanket for comfort and warmth. The love and joy that goes into knitting a blanket is shared with each newborn through these blankets. The blankets help to make the nursery environment feel more like home.

I invite all knitters to join me in this effort to provide a blanket to each newborn in the special care nursery! If you would like to knit for a newborn in the nursery, here are a few guidelines:

  • Yarn should be soft and washable
  • Blanket size should range between 18″-24″ wide x 24″-30″ tall
