Swampscott/Marblehead Legion Remains Atop District 8

Three players from the local legion contingent were selected to play in the District 8 All-Star game on July 16.

Swampscott/ Marblehead Sr Legion split their games over the weekend.

They lost to Haverhill  4-1. Bradon Engstrom pitched a great game for the Swampscott/Marblehead team but a couple costly errors hurt his cause. The Haverhill pitcher scattered three hits giving up only one run. 

On Sunday night Swampscott beat an always tough Peabody team 5-4. Sean O’Brien pitched a complete game striking out six, with five hits and two walks.

Offensively, Trevor Massey had two hits, a triple and a single with an RBI. Jake Cassidy had two hits with two RBI’s, Sean O’Brien had a hit, and Mike Lan continues to swing a hot bat with a hit.

Swampscott/Marblehead has a tough week ahead, starting with Newburyport on Thursday at 7 p.m. at home ,followed by Middleton on Friday at 7 at home and Andover on Saturday at home at 5.

The local legion squad placed three players on the American Legion all-star team, which plays tonight, Tuesday, July 16 in Lynn at Fraser Field.

Participants on the North team are from Andover, No. Andover, Methuen, Lawrence, Haverhill & Newburyport; and participants from the South team are from Saugus, Lynn, Swampscott, Peabody, Danvers & Middleton.

Jake Cassidy of Lawrence Academy, Trey Blackmerof  Marblehead and Andrew Raisner of Martblehead are playing in the game.
