Marblehead Rolls on Turkey Day: 51-13

Running back Brooks Tyrrell broke it open early.

Hard to say which churned faster at Piper Field Thursday, the wind turbine above or Brooks Tyrrell's legs.

Time and again the runner slashed through holes and sprinted to the end zone.

A familiar pattern emerged. Marblehead scored. The marching band struck up a celebratory tune. And cheerleaders cheered.

Marblehead ran away from Swampscott in their 105th Thanksgiving Day meeting, the Magicians winning 51-13.

Early, Marblehead set the tone. They scored on their first possession, a Tyrrell run. It was the first of six touchdowns for the junior running back.

At least two of his touchdown runs were for more than 60 yards. We will wait for official word on how many yards he gained but it looked like it will top 250.

Another big play early in the game was a 78-yard throwing touchdown from Matt Millett to Jeremy Gillis.

Marblehead's defense set the tone early, as well. They stonewalled Swampscott's running attack, gang tackling Swampscott's stalwart senior ball carrier Desmond Wilhelmsen.

The Marblehead defense forced turnovers including several interceptions.

At one point in the third quarter the score was 45-0.

The lopsided score and wind-driven cold had many fans thinking turkey, cider and stuffing by halftime.

Swampscott got scores from Cam Frary and Desmond Wilhelmsen but some fans made an early exit — from stands on both sides of the field.
