Hardknock Hockey: Marblehead Over Swampscott

Marblehead defeated Swampscott 6-3 in the teams' first meeting of the season on Saturday.

 

Marblehead rode a second period goal spree, scoring three in several minutes, to defeat Swampscott Saturday evening, 6-3, at Salem State University's Rockett Arena.

Marblehead got goals from Trip Franzese (2), Tom Koopman (2), Matt Koopman and Eric Powers.

Marblehead is 2-1 on the season and will compete in the Gloucester tournament this week.

Swampscott's tallies came from Noah Maercklein — his first varsity goal — Nunzio Morretti and Robert Serino.

Marblehead Coach Bob Jackson said it was a roller coaster of a game.

The lesson coming away is for the team to continue working hard when they lead in a game.

That being said he credited Swampscott with coming out and playing hard after the second period.

Swampscott Coach Gino Faia said the team was slow in the second period, after coming out strong.

Penalty after penalty in the period resulted in power play goals for Marblehead.

Swampscott is 2-1 on the season.

They will compete in the East Boston hockey tournament this week.
