Marblehead Tops State Averages in MCAS Subjects

The students tested in English, math and science and technology.

Results from the 2013 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System testing last spring show Marblehead students scored above the state average in the three categories: English, mathematics, and science and technology.

They topped the state average in the percentage of students who scored in the advanced and proficient categories; and they tested below the percentage of students who scored in the needs improvement and warning/failing categories.

English

In English, Marblehead students tested 32 percent advanced, 51 percent proficient, 12 percent needs improvement and 4 percent warning/failing. Statewide, students tested 19, 50, 23 and 8 percent, in those same categories.

Mathematics

In mathematics, Marblehead students tested 39 percent advanced, 37 percent proficient, 18 percent needs improvement and 7 percent warning/failing. Statewide, students tested 28, 33, 25 and 14 percent, in those same categories.

Science and Technology

In science and technology, Marblehead students tested 30 percent advanced, 46 percent proficient, 22 percent needs improvement and 3 percent warning/failing. Statewide, students tested 16, 37, 35 and 12 percent, in those same categories.
