Marblehead Schools Rate Level 2 Based on MCAS

Marblehead public schools rated a Level 2, overall, on the state's accountability report, the rating based on 2013 MCAS results.

The recently released results are drawn from the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests given to students in grades 3–10 in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering.

Students took the tests last spring. A Level 1 designation applies to the highest performers and a 5 to the lowest.

Four of six schools — Bell, Coffin, Glover and the Middle School —  received a Level 1 designation, with Village and the High School receiving a 2.

The MCAS accountability page says that, in "general, a district is classified into the level of its lowest performing school, unless the district was independently classified into Level 4 or 5 as a result of action by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education."
