Summer Youth Wrestling Program seeking participants

Local Youth Wrestling program enters second year of providing grappling instruction

Beginning Thursday, July 17 at 6:30pm at Swampscott High School and running for six weeks on Tuesdays & Thursdays, the Swampscott Recreation Department will again offer a session of it's quickly growing Youth Wrestling program to all Marblehead & Swampscott residents.

The youth wrestling program enters it's second year and fourth session to date. Starting last summer and growing each time a session has been offered to boys & girls grades K through 8 in Swampscott & Marblehead, the goal of the program is as follows:

It is designed with the intent to introduce first time wrestlers to the sport of wrestling, while also allowing for wrestlers with basic knowledge to continue to get mat time so as to refine/advance their skills and learn new techniques. New wrestlers will be introduced to wrestling concepts, rules, basic moves and techniques while also drilling to develop critical muscle groups required to succeed in the sport of wrestling.

Lead Instructor for the program is Rick Wyman, an Arizona High School State Champion and 4th Team High School All American in Freestyle & Roman-Greco.

Any child from Kindergarten through 8th grade is ideal for this program. Wrestlers with existing experience are also encouraged to participate as there will be counselors from the Marblehead-Swampscott Co-op High School Wrestling team as well as a couple college wrestlers dropping in to provide additional clinical instruction.  This program is the sole local feeder program for the Marblehead-Swampscott Co-op High School Wrestling team.

Cost of the program is $150 for 6 weeks (two sessions each week).  Click on the link below to be taken to the Swampscott Recreation Department's Registration page for the Youth Wrestling program:
