Marblehead Unemployment Up from Last Year, Last Month
Marblehead unemployment went up slightly from last year.
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development recently released their June unemployment numbers for counties and towns throughout the state, including Marblehead.
Marblehead saw an increase in unemployment from May to June of this year, as well as from June 2012 to June of this year.
Unemployment rose in Marblehead from 5.2 percent in June of 2012 to 5.3 percent this past June. Unemployment had gone down to 4.7 percent in May of this year.
As of June, there were 590 Marblehead residents without jobs, out of the 11,174 total labor force in Marblehead. The labor force in Marblehead, which is the total number of employable individuals, stayed exactly the same from this time last year.
Statewide, unemployment was up in June as well as year-to-date. June unemployment throughout the state rose by 0.7 of a percent to 7.4 percent this past June. Statewide unemployment over the year jumped up by 0.5 percent to 6.9 percent.
