Recreation Supervisor Retires

C. Michael Lane, who has served as Marblehead's Recreation Supervisor for 12 years, plans to retire this spring, according to this story in the Lynn Daily Item.

According to the Item, on Jan. 20, Lane wrote a resignation letter to Recreation and Parks Commission Superintendent Brendan Egan. The letter reportedly informed commission members that he plans to work until Feb. 27 and use 25 earned vacation days until April 2.

“I was taken by surprise by this,” The Item quoted commission member Chip Osborne as saying. “It bothers me that he didn’t call me. There will be no opportunity for a transition and we’ll never see him face to face and ask his thoughts on what we should look for.”

Also quoted in the Item story was commission member Derek Norcross, who reportedly said, “I’m disappointed by the way this was done, a lack of conversation with the people who have worked with him so long, but we don’t need to put his family in jeopardy. Let’s take the high road.”

Commission members are moving forward with a search for Lane's replacement.
