Marblehead Votes for Markey in U.S. Senate Race

Town voters mirrored state-wide totals, albeit by a slimmer margin for the Democratic candidate, Ed Markey.

Democratic Congressman Ed Markey won the U.S. Senate race Tuesday night statewide and took Marblehead by a similar, albeit smaller, margin.

While statewide the veteran U.S. Representative beat GOP challenger Gabriel Gomez by 55 percent to 45 percent, in Marblehead the gap was a bit closer. Markey received 53 percent of residents' votes while Gomez won 46 percent.

The final tally in Marblehead was 3,028 for Markey, 2,647 for Gomez, 17 for Richard Heos, 19 for write-ins and 11 blanks, according to results posted on the town's Web site.
