Marblehead Declares State of Emergency

At an emergency meeting at Abbot Hall this afternoon, the town's Board of Selectmen approved a motion to declare a state of emergency.

At an emergency meeting at this afternoon, the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a motion to declare that the town of Marblehead is in a state of emergency.

The motion, read by Jackie Belf-Becker: "I move that the Board of Selectmen delcare a state of emergency in the Town of Marblehead due to the flooding which resulted from the rains of Oct. 4, 2011 and that said flooding poses an immediate threat to the health or safety of persons or property in the Town of Marblehead."

Marblehead was swamped with more than four inches of rain this morning, according to the National Weather Service.
