Local Romney Volunteers Celebrate New Hampshire Primary Win

Mitt Romney's New Hampshire Primary win Tuesday was especially sweet for the handful of local residents who traveled to New Hampshire in support of his presidential bid.

For the group of Marblehead residents who spent the last few days going door-to-door and making phone calls in support of Mitt Romney's bid for president, the news that he had won Tuesday's New Hampshire Primary Election was certainly cause for celebration.

According to Nate Walton, of Marblehead, four Headers were among the group of 30 North Shore volunteers who traveled by bus to New Hampshire Saturday morning to campaign for Romney.

Walton, who served as the effort's statewide coordinator, said more than 200 volunteers from across the Commonwealth made their way to the Granite State from locations including Sutton, Chelmsford, Boston, Peabody, Braintree, and Dartmouth.

"Volunteers worked out of the campaign's Manchester headquarters, helping with campaign rallies, voter turnout calls, and neighborhood canvassing," Walton said.

Joining Walton was Harvard freshman Josh Chmara, 18, also of Marblehead, who said he spent much of the weekend going door-to-door in support of Romney.

"We were up there to get out the vote, to let people know when and where to go," Chmara said. "There was a lot of work to be done."

Early reports indicated that Romney secured some 39 percent of the votes counted Tuesday. Coming in second was Ron Paul with 23 percent and Jon Huntsman rounded out the top three, securing 17 percent of the vote.
