Light Department Offers New Online Payment Service

Customers can sign up to go paperless with new e-bills.

Soon town residents will be able to pay their Marblehead Municipal Light Department bill with a single click of the mouse.

The town-owned utility is implementing a new online payment and e-bill service that will offer customers more flexibility in paying their electric bills.

Officials with the department say the system is easy to use and will allow customers the option of paying their bill via their checking account or by using a credit or debit card.

Billing information will be available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will be accessible through the utility company's website.

Customers who sign up for the service will receive an email with their current amount due and a printable PDF version of their bill that is an exact replica of the one they would receive in the mail.

Initially, customers will only be able to view their current bill, but in time there will be access to 18 months of their billing and payment history. Once they are logged onto the web portal, customers can search their payment history, schedule a one-time payment and establish an automatic payment schedule.

After paying their bill online, local customers will receive a payment receipt in their inbox.

Over the next month, local customers will have the option of signing up for the new online service. To sign up, go to the website and click on the “view or pay your bill” link for detailed instructions on how to sign up and go paperless.
