Bangkok Paradise's Liquor License Revoked

The Salem Licensing Board revoked Bangkok Paradise's liquor license Thursday night.

The Salem Licensing Board revoked Bangkok Paradise's liquor license at their meeting Thursday night.

At Licensing Board meeting last month, Chief of Police Paul Tucker, accompanied by one of his captains and three patrolman, told board members that underage patrons were being served at the Washington Street restaurant and said "my officers feel this situation with Bangkok Paradise is out of control. As Chief I cannot let this stand."

Less than two weeks after that meeting, the restaurant's owner, Jesus Franco, 42, of 34 Perkins St., Salem, was arrested and charged with trafficking Oxycodone following a multi-agency drug bust.

Here's how the board voted Thursday night:

  • Illegality on premise - Minor being served. License suspend three days, one day to be served.
  • Alleged illegality on premise - Trafficking a Class A substance (Oxycodone). License suspended six months beginning Nov. 12 until May 13.
  • Alleged illegality on premise - Trafficking a Class A substance (Oxycodone) License revoked, effective May 14, 2013.

What do you think about the board's decision? Let us know in the comments section below.

No. The license had to be physically turned in this morning. City Hall closes at noon today and does not open again until Monday morning, meaning the actual license will not be available until then. If the license is not physically on the premises, they cannot serve alcohol. Since the food license is tied to the alcohol license they also cannot serve food.

The business was sold over a year ago but groups of people were in and out regularly for months while they were "remodeling". I lived next door and it was very obvious that something not good was going on even before they opened for business. The private parking lot which belong to tenants of the neighboring parking building were vandalized, large groups of intimidating people were hanging out back, and the clientele had definately changed from previous owner. Is this the kind of place with all the brawls, overserving, and serving to minors you want across from city hall right next to respectable tax paying businesses?? I for one am glad they are gone it is not good for Salem!!
