Board of Selectmen To Weigh Special Election Decision

After failing by 71 votes, the board will take up whether or not to hold another special election this fall.

Tonight's meeting of the Board of Selectmen could get heated with a push from the School Committee and Glover School supporters to hold a special election for a school override this fall.

The town's Republican Committee is against the idea and is urging the selectmen to ban the vote after it already failed in June. But Glover School supporters say the question failed by just 71 votes and still has a chance.

In a recent letter to the Glover Building Committee, the Massachusetts School Building Authority said it is still committed  to reimbursing the town 40% of the project's cost. But it must be approved by the fall or else, the reimbursement will decrease.

In order to hold a special election, Selectmen must give their approval. A Town Meeting will not have to be held prior to another special election this year.

Should Selectmen decide to hold the special election at the same time as the Gubernatorial election in November, they will have to notify the Town Clerk by next Wednesday.
