Board of Health Sends Oversight Committee Forward

A newly formed committee will begin discussing the next steps for the landfill.

Charged with re-evaluating the design for the transfer station in conjunction with the already engineered capping, the official Transfer Station Building Oversight Committee has been formed.

The Board of Health gave the directive to the newly formed committee at Monday night's Board of Health meeting.

Members were appointed by the Board of Health at their last meeting.  The committee will start this month, researching and discussing the next steps for the station. They must have a plan in place to go before Town Meeting by the March 1, deadline.

"I was one of the 63 people who did not vote in favor of the project moving forward at Town Meeting," new member and lawyer Patrick Van Der Voorn said as one of his reasons for wanting to be on the committee.

"I remember when the transfer station was just a burning pit," retired police officer Brian Hitchcock said. "I look forward to making this happen."

All members said they wanted to make sure the project moved forward in a fiscally responsible way for the town.

The committee will meet after the Board of Health's next meeting on Sept. 28.
