Barry Finegold Announces Candidacy for State Treasurer

Several colleagues spoke on behalf of Finegold during a Wednesday event in Hyde Park.

Democrat Barry Finegold announced during an appearance at the Georgetown Housing Complex in Hyde Park on Wednesday that he plans to run for Massachusetts State Treasurer.

Finegold is currently a State Senator representing Andover, Tewksbury, Dracut and Lawrence.

"I learned so many lessons from my parents as I watched them struggle to provide a life for me. We weren’t poor and we certainly weren’t rich, we were middle class in every way," said Finegold, according to a press release. "I fought hard for everything in my life. I worked for every dollar I have made and earned every success my family and I enjoy today."

During his Hyde Park appearance, Finegold was joined by Sen. Mike Rush, who said he is proud to support Finegold's candidacy.

"I have seen first-hand Barry's commitment to working families, seniors, veterans and all of our communities," said Rush. "I am convinced that Barry will be a fiscal watchdog for the citizens of the Commonwealth and a champion of protecting taxpayers' dollars. I am proud to stand with him here in Hyde Park for this important campaign kick-off."

In addition, Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry backed Finegold, saying that he knows the importance of helping struggling families achieve the American Dream.

Finegold graduated from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover. He also holds a masters degree in Public Administrations from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

In his second term as State Senator, Finegold lives in Andover with his wife, Amy, and three children.
