The feds plan to auction off items from Whitey Bulger's Santa Monica, Calif. bolt-hole. Proceeds from the sales would compensate the families of victims of the notorious Southie mob boss, according to the Associated Press via the Boston Herald.

Would you want to own a piece of Whitey memorabilia, like a diamond and gold claddagh ring or a replica of a Stanley Cup championship ring (Bulger petitioned the court to keep the original)? His victims' family members had mixed feelings, according to the AP.

These kinds of auctions can bring in millions for victims' families, federal officials told the AP. Sales of items seized from fraud king Bernie Madoff brought in $3.2 million, for instance.

Many of the items taken from the apartment where Bulger and his longtime girlfriend hid out are of little worth in themselves — cat figurines and copies of "Soldier of Fortune" magazine.

Click through to the Boston Herald to read how the feds hope to auction off the items in a way that doesn't glorify Whitey Bulger.

Would you buy a piece of Whitey memorabilia? Or do you agree with a victim's family member who just wants it all burned.
