Search Ends, Diver's Body Recovered Off Marblehead Coast

The body of a male diver missing off the coast of Marblehead on Tuesday was recovered on Tuesday afternoon.

The body of a diver that was missing for several hours on Tuesday was recovered from the waters off Marblehead, a State Police spokesman said on Tuesday afternoon.

Spokesman David Procopio said that State Police divers located the body of male diver at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in 50-60 feet of water about two miles off shore.

The identity of the diver was not immediately released.

The search began at about 10:30 a.m. when the man's family notified the U.S. Coast Guard that he was overdue.

The search of an area near Satan's Rock behind Children's Island  involved multiple public safety crews in addition to those from Marblehead, including the Beverly Fire Department dive team, State Police dive team and Salem police dive team plus a boat and helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Essex County District Attorney's office has taken over the investigation, Procopio said.
