Marblehead Firefighters, Police Take Trip to Top of Abbot Hall

Thanks to the Marblehead Police Department for posting photos from the top of the scaffolding around Abbot Hall.

The photos above were recently posted to the Marblehead Police Department's Facebook page, along with the following message

On Friday afternoon, Marblehead Police and Fire Department personnel met with the construction workers who are doing the repairs to the Abbot Hall bell tower.

Residents have no doubt noticed a tremendous amount of scaffolding, which has been erected around the tower. The work is expected to continue until the end of October.

In the event of an accident or other emergency taking place high up on the tower, police and fire personnel, under supervision of the work crews, were shown the best and safest ways to reach the top.

After dawning safety glasses and hard hats, everyone began the climbing tour.

While the views were tremendous, even on a cloudy and raw day, many of us were busy holding on for dear life. There were a few light moments and time for photos but the gravity of being that high up, and strategizing how a rescue would be conducted, kept everyone focused.

Lets hope for a smooth project with no cost overruns or delays and most importantly, no incidents.
