Pedestrian Shaken Up after Near Miss in Crosswalk

The following information came from the Marblehead Police Department. Where charges are listed, they do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 8

  • At 9:15 a.m., a walk-in to the station reported that a license plate from a rental car was stolen.
  • At 12:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of smoke in the basement at a Columbia Road residence. There was no fire. It may have been a dryer belt that was smoking.
  • At 2:13 p.m., a Salem police officer asked for assistance serving a restraining order at a West Shore Drive residence.
  • At 4:09 p.m., kayakers were having problems off Ocean Avenue. The harbormaster has both parties who were in the kayak and was to drop them off at Little Harbor.
  • Foster Street woman called police from Logan Airport after being dropped off and said she had been struck and was bleeding and wanted to press charges. A state police trooper at Logan photographed the injuries and emailed the photos to MPD.

Tuesday, July 9

  • At 11:29 p.m., police did a field interview on a hitchhiker at Lafayette Street and Laurel Street due to suspicious activity in the area. Police charged Louis Apicella, 49, on a non-Marblehead warrant.
  • At 11:30 a.m., a bicyclist said he and other bikers were riding on Circle Street when a black Mercedes opened its door in an attempt to knock one of the bicyclists off his bike.
  • At 12:16 p.m., police received a report from a pedestrian at Atlantic Avenue and Commercial Street who said she was shaken up after almost being hit by a vehicle while she was in a crosswalk.
  • At 9:20 p.m., a Clifton Avenue caller reported that someone came to her door, rang the doorbell and ran off.
