Missing Diver is 59-Year-Old Man

Multiple dive crews continue the search for a missing diver off the Marblehead coast on Tuesday afternoon.

Nearly three hours after it started, a search continued on Tuesday afternoon for a missing diver near Children's Island off the Marblehead coast.

The U.S. Coast Guard identified the missing diver as a 59-year-old man. The Coast Guard said it was notified at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday by the man's family saying he was overdue.

At about 1:15 p.m., Marblehead police said that it was an "active search" that was continuing. The search area was focused near Satan's Rock, which is "behind" Children's Island.

Earlier reports said that the search was for a diver who had not been seen for 75 minutes and had 60 minutes of air in his tank.

Multiple crews were taking part in the search, assisting Marblehead rescue workers, including the Beverly Fire Department dive team, State Police dive team and Salem police dive team.

Additionally, the Coast Guard said a 29-foot small boat and a search and rescue crew aboard a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod were taking part in the search.
