Marblehead Attorney For Alleged Strangler's Family: DNA Evidence Strong But 'Not Definitive'

There's a Marblehead connection to the big news about the Boston Strangler case.

Prosecutors on Thursday said they will dig up the remains of alleged Boston Strangler Albert DeSalvo to test if his DNA matches a sample from the notorious killer's final victim.

A decade ago, Marblehead attorney Elaine Whitfield Sharp worked with the DeSalvo family in a forensic study that concluded semen found on the body of 19-year-old Mary Sullivan did not match Albert DeSalvo, according to the Boston Globe.

Whitfield Sharp told the Globe that new DNA evidence making a "familial match" to Albert DeSalvo was strong, but not definitive. Prosecutors say that DNA tests of Alberto DeSalvo's body, once completed, will conclusively prove he killed Sullivan.
