Crash Leads to Local Woman's 3rd OUI Arrest

A Marblehead woman was arraigned on her third operating while under the influence charge Wednesday afternoon.

A local woman was arrested on her third OUI charge Tuesday after allegedly rear-ending a vehicle on Atlantic Avenue while driving with marijuana and unmarked pills in her car.

Sharry E. Mann, 52, of 14 May St., Marblehead, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lynn District Court to charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, third offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a class C substance (Lorazepam).

At 11:10 a.m., local police officers responded to a reported of a minor motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Hewitt Street involving an Oldsmobile sedan and a BMW.

The driver of the BMW reportedly told police that Mann had been tailgating them all the way up Atlantic Avenue and ended up rear-ending them when they tried to stop.

While investigating the cause of the accident, police noted that Mann appeared to be out of sorts, slurred her speech when she spoke and seemed lethargic.

Officers also noted that they found a steak knife stuck into the dashboard of Mann's vehicle and reported that she admitted to taking medication earlier in the day, according to court documents.

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Mann was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and transported to the police station for booking.

While searching Mann's vehicle, police reportedly found a half-smoked marijuana joint, two unmarked pill vials containing an assortment of unknown pills, a pouch with two marijuana pipes and a "one-hitter box" filled with marijuana.

Judge Ellen Flatley set Mann's bail at $250 and ordered that she return to court on Jan. 15 for a pretrial hearing.
