FBI Report: Marblehead Violent Crime Down but Property Crime Up

27 violent crimes were reported in Marblehead in 2012, according to new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The number of violent crimes in 2012 were fewer than the 31 in 2011 but more than the 26 in 2010. 

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

In 2012, Marblehead reported two forcible rapes, 22 robberies and 23 aggravated assaults.

In addition to violent crimes, Marblehead reported 222 property crimes in 2012. There were 43 burglaries, 171 instances of larceny or theft and 8 motor vehicle thefts.
