Driver Identified in Devereux Beach Accident

Police have identified an elderly local woman who was injured Wednesday when she rolled her vehicle over the anchor at the entrace to .

Jean Apple, of Colonial Court, Marblehead, was treated for injuries sustained in the accident and released from Salem Hospital last night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

At 4:28 p.m., local police and fire units responded to the entrance of the Ocean Avenue beach for a reported roll-over accident.

Apple was reportedly trapped inside of her 1999 Toyota Corolla when emergency responders arrived. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance and the roadway was temporarily shut down while her vehicle was removed from the scene.

The Recreation and Parks Commission was notified about the damage to the anchor, which was still on its side early this morning.
