Updated: Crash Victim Extricated and Transported to Hospital

A patient was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital early Saturday morning after a single-car crash on Atlantic Avenue.

The red 2007 Hyundai crashed into a tree, and firefighters extricated the lone occupant, according to a Marblehead police log entry.

The crash took place on Atlantic Avenue at Beach Street, said Marblehead police Chief Robert Picariello.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, the chief said.

No information was available on the patient's condition.

The crash was reported at 4:05 a.m.

Police notified the owner of the vehicle, a mother, of the crash and that her son had been transported to the hospital, the log stated.

Traffic was diverted and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
